The Burning Heart of God

I have recently wondered if God knew how things would end before they even began, why would he create us? Why would he go ahead and create a people of which some would turn their back on Him? Why would he want to go through something like that? As I continued to ponder this all I could think was how heart-breaking it must be to see something so amazing that you created be partially destroyed. And that is where I got my answer…. the heart.

God loves us so much that He was still willing to go through with His creation just so He could spend time with us, love us. God has such a burning desire for us—just to know us, bless us, teach us, correct us, and love us. He invites us into His burning heart. God’s love is immeasurable; it’s hard for us to understand it all. Psalm 36:5 has a description of God’s love, “God’s love is meteoric, his loyalty astronomic, His purpose titanic, his verdicts oceanic. Yet in his largeness nothing gets lost; Not a man, not a mouse, slips through the cracks.”

I find it almost hard to describe God’s love to you. It is so vast and never- ending that it is hard to put into words. So instead of me using my human mind to try and give you my description of God’s love, here are His words:

Psalm 103:6 - God’s love is ever and always, eternally present.

Psalm 136:1 - Thank God! He deserves your thanks. His love never quits. Thank the God of all gods, His love never quits. Thank the Lord of all lords. His love never quits.

2 Thessalonians 2:13 - Meanwhile, we’ve got our hands full continually thanking God for you, our good friends—so loved by God! God picked you out as his from the very start.

Lamentations 3:22 - God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. How great your faithfulness! I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over). He’s all I’ve got left.

Romans 8:31-39 - So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture: They kill us in cold blood because they hate you. We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one. None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.

This is what God offers us. I guess the question is when will we accept His burning heart?
